How Much Does a Dog Walker Cost in St Ives, Cambridgeshire?

If you’re thinking about a dog walker in St Ives, the first question is usually the cost. The short answer: around £12 for a 30 minute solo walk, and £13 to £17 for an hour, depending on whether your dog walks in a small group or on their own.

This guide covers what changes the price, what a week of walks actually costs, and what you should expect to get for your money.

What changes the price of a dog walk

Solo or group

A solo walk is one-to-one: just your dog and the walker. It suits puppies, older dogs, reactive dogs, dogs on restricted exercise and anyone who simply does better without company.

A group walk is a small pack of dogs walked together. It costs less per dog and suits sociable dogs who enjoy the company. The size of the group matters. Jas & Paws never walks more than four dogs at once, so every dog stays in sight and under control.

How long the walk is

Most walkers offer 30 minutes and 1 hour. Thirty minutes is enough for a toilet break, a sniff and a stretch. An hour suits younger and working breeds, and anything that needs to burn off energy before an afternoon on their own.

More than one dog

If you have two dogs from the same home, most walkers charge less for the second. It’s the same trip, the same keys and the same front door.

Bank holidays and Christmas

Expect a supplement on bank holidays, and more on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Check before you book rather than finding it on the invoice.

Regular bookings

Walkers like regular routines, because they plan their week around them. Many reward a regular booking with a discount.

What a week of walks costs

The price of one walk only tells you so much. Here’s what some common routines come to.

  • A 30 minute solo walk, three days a week: 3 × £12 = £36 a week.
  • A 1 hour group walk every weekday: 5 × £13 = £65, less 10% for five walks a week = £58.50 a week.
  • Two dogs from the same home, 1 hour group walk, three days a week: (£13 + £10) × 3 = £69 a week.
  • A 1 hour solo walk on a bank holiday: £17 + £5 = £22.

If you’re back at the office a few days a week, a midday walk on those days is often all a dog needs to settle until you’re home.

What you should get for the money

The cheapest walker isn’t always the best value. Whoever you choose, it’s worth asking:

  • Will we meet first? A meet and greet at home lets the walker meet your dog, learn the routine and check how they are on the lead. It should be free.
  • How many dogs do you walk at once? Fewer dogs means more attention for yours.
  • Are you insured? Ask what the policy covers, and ask to see it.
  • How are my keys kept? Keys should never be labelled with your name or address. Jas & Paws labels keys with a code.
  • Will I hear how the walk went? A quick photo and a note after each walk tells you your dog is fine. Jas & Paws sends a photo update after every visit.
  • What happens if my dog doesn’t get on with the group? A good walker will tell you honestly and suggest solo walks instead.
